Welcome back to the March CAS Mix Up Challenge to which I’m so honoured to be hosting, PLUS it’s our 3rd Anniversary Blog, Yahoo. This month, we’re trying the Faux Stained Glass technique. Of course, we’ve got plenty of video’s on the blog, but the design team along with our Special Guest Gundi have made some stunning cards to get you started.
Using my favourite Framed Fern Die, from Penny Black, I adhered 3 layers of die cuts out of 140lb watercolour paper. Then, I mixed some Alcohol inks of yellow, green and blue onto Yupo paper. Once dry, I placed my stacked/glue stacks to where I liked the nuances of colour and adhered it. Instead of Glossy Accents, I used Americana’s Triple Thick Gloss Glaze and, except for some bubbles, it did the job. Again I waited for this coat to dry and trimmed the piece at the edge of the die cut. To finish I stamped a zen checkered stamp (Texture Clear Stamp Arty from Kaisercraft) with sticky embossing powder and added silver gilding flakes. I also added silver gilding flakes to the fourth Framed Fern die cut to top my stained glass.
Do join in on the fun at CAS Mix Up! There’s plenty of videos & inspiration from our Guest and Design Team. Thanks for stopping by,
Your card is stunning Joanna, I love the modern feel of your card, a wonderful design!

That is stunning! I love the alcohol ink background and the gilding flakes are just the perfect touch. Question about this card – do you think you could mail it without extra postage. Just wondering how thick it is. I love it!

Gorgeous faux stained glass background for your die cut framed leaves, Joanna. I loved all the colors in the Alcohol ink faux stained glass background. Adding your silver flakes embossing over your leaves added such beautiful texture. I recently purchased Nuvo Chrystal Glaze, so your challenge was perfect timing to learn how to use my new product. TFS and hosting this month. So awesome that Loll, Bonnie and DT girls are celebrating CAS Mix Up’s 3rd Anniversary too. Hugs..Nancy

This is a stunning piece with the fern in the frame Joanna, and has a great stained glass effect with the background alcohol inks and the glossy glaze, and then the pretty silver gilding flakes on the fern, and also the chequered background which really brings it all together. x
